IN a landmark decision that could have a knock-on effect for Fernhurst, West Sussex County Council refused an application by Celtique Energie to test drill for shale oil and gas at Wisborough Green, near Billingshurst, on Tuesday. Planning officers had recommended the application should be rejected because of concerns about road safety and capacity, after council highways department objected to the plans on the grounds it would make the access road unsafe for other users, including cyclists, farming traffic, horses and pedestrians.
