Running all day on both Wednesday, April 5, and Wednesday April 19, children and adults alike can look forward to exploring the ‘eggstra’ special themed trail, where they’ll discover lots of fun facts about birds and their eggs.
While visitors crack the trail’s clues set by the Easter Bunny and enjoy the opportunity to join in with some Easter-themed crafts, they will also have the chance to see the park’s very own Percy the Penguin who will be helping out throughout the day.
Easter will also see the return of Birdworld’s popular Pirate Activity Week, where between Monday, April 10, and Thursday, April 13, the park will be calling all pirates and explorers alike to join in with some swashbuckling fun and games.
Special prizes will be awarded throughout the week for the best fancy dress and of course, the best pirate impressions.
Regular feeding sessions and displays hosted by the keepers throughout the day will also give visitors the chance to learn more about the species up close as well as the opportunity to ask questions and be a part of the bird’s daily routine.
As one of the largest bird parks in the country, the 26 acres of landscaped park and gardens are home to more than 800 birds and 180 species from around the world.
Popular exhibits include Penguin Island, Flamingo Cove and the Seashore Walk. And if that wasn’t enough, the mysterious Underwater World also awaits with its shoal of piranhas and dwarf crocodiles.
The Jenny Wren children’s farm is always a big hit, particularly with younger visitors in the spring time as in addition to the traditional goats, pigs, chickens and sheep with their newborn babies there is also a huge variety of other animals such as guinea pigs, rabbits, mice and ferrets, many of which can be stroked during the daily ‘Animal Encounter’ sessions.
This spring, Birdworld has also launched its brand new exhibit, the Terry Pratchett Owl Parliament. Open fully for the Easter holidays, the impressive new display has been named in honour of author, Sir Terry Pratchett due to his well-known love of wildlife and in particular, all species of owl.
Created in collaboration with the World Owl Trust (WOT), the satellite exhibit will aim to educate and raise awareness of these amazing birds.
The Owl Parliament has been created both as a satellite of the Trust’s collection and to recognise Sir Terry’s passion for these mysterious birds of prey. Many of the elements of this exhibit have been carefully designed to incorporate his fantasy novels of Discworld.
As well as featuring a wonderment and diversity of owls from the magical snowy owl to the reputedly wise long-eared owl, the Terry Pratchett Owl Parliament will be an interactive space where visitors can learn fascinating facts about Strigiformes - the order in which owls belong.
Visitors familiar with the Discworld novels, will be easily able to recognise a number of the references but with the unique stylising of these aviaries, everyone exploring the exhibit will be drawn into the mythical and wonderful world of Sir Terry Pratchett.
For the most avid of owl fans, Birdworld also offers the unique opportunity to join the keepers with a Birdworld Owl Handling Experience.
The lucky participants will be given the chance to get up close and personal with the park’s owls as well as receiving a memento as a reminder of their day.
