HALLOWE’EN has passed but residents fear a nightmare is unfolding on the highways around Bordon with two major closures looming.

Getting around town is about to become a lot trickier as Budds Lane and Lindford Road are both set for lengthy closures at the same time.

Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) need to close the roads as part of a major project to secure energy supplies between Bordon and Alton.

But their decision to close them both at the same times has angered many residents with councillors being left in the dark about the decision-making.

The section of Budds Lane from the High Street to Oakhanger Road will be closed after the weekend for an expected three months.

The section of Lindford Road between St Lucia Road and Broxhead Farm Road will close from November 13 to February 16 with the official division taking in Liphook, the A3 and the A325 instead of routes through Hollywater.

The decision to close Budds Lane and Lindford Road at the same time follows weeks of growing frustration among residents about the amount of roadworks around Whitehill & Bordon.

Among the frustrated is county councillor Andy Tree as the representative for Whitehill, Bordon and Lindford has received multiple messages from “very perplexed and angry residents”.

He said: “Residents cannot understand why the closures are taking place at the same time, given the chaos it will cause for many months, and have asked for better diversions.”

An update is expected as Cllr Tree has been invited to online progress meetings with SSEN while he’s also asked if northbound traffic on the A325 could be allowed to temporarily turn right at the Broxhead Road junction to shorten journeys.

The Herald has asked Stagecoach for information on how the closure of Lindford Road will affect bus services. Expect follow-up stories.
