WEST Surrey Health Authority announced shock plans to demolish the current building which houses Haslemere Hospital and rebuild it as a local care centre at a public meeting on Monday night.

The 450 residents who attended the meeting were stunned at the plans, particularly as WSHA is proposing the closure of community beds at Haslemere, Cranleigh and Farnham in an attempt to save £1.3 million.
