AN unsuspecting shopper had £500 stolen from her bank account after falling victim to a distraction con.

The woman in her 50s had her bank card stolen by a man asking for directions after she left the Tesco store on The Causeway.

The 52-year-old victim fell prey to the crime after returning to her car in the car park after shopping in the Tesco store.

As she opened the passenger door of her vehicle to put her handbag on the back seat, the conman approached her and distracted her with a map asking for directions.

Soon after, the victim realised that her purse had been opened and that her bank card was missing.

The victim reported the card as missing and her bank advised her that two cash withdrawals of £250 had been made.
