WITH the downturn in the economy, Christmas this year was predicted to be one of gloom and doom, with fewer presents and even chicken replacing the traditional turkey for dinner.

But in Bordon last Friday tills were busy ringing as shoppers braved rising petrol and food prices and headed for the shops.
