LOSING a piece of Bordon’s history was how shoppers reacted to the news of the closure of the Co-op at Bordon’s Forest Shopping Centre and the loss of 24 staff members.
Herald reporter Sheila Checkley asked shoppers how they felt about losing one of the biggest grocery outlets in the town and the staff, who were described by one person as “a lovely bunch”.
Nora Wells, who lives in Whitehill, said: “I am very sad. I don’t drive and I use the Co-op a lot as I can walk here from my home. I like their products, such as their bread and pies, and I shall miss being able to buy them.
“If we have to lose the Co-op I would like another supermarket to come in. I have heard rumours it might be Iceland, which would be all right, and I am glad Peacocks is staying as it is the only place we in the town to buy clothes.”
