Shottermill & Haslemere should really have won this relegation dogfight at a canter.
Kicking uphill in the first half, the visitors often struggled to clear their lines and gave Croydon too much space in midfield.
However, there were few clear opportunities for either side until a well-worked free-kick caught Shottermill napping and Mills beat Tim Howard from close range.
Shottermill responded positively in the second half and, using the slope to good advantage, created a number of chances through the pace of Daynes and O'Brien up front.
It was player-manager Anthony Clark who eventually equalised when he stabbed home Lockley's centre. Now Croydon were on the back foot, but time after time they were let off the hook by poor Shottermill finishing.
During a rare excursion out of their own half, Croydon were awarded a controversial penalty. Howard guessed the right way, but was unable to stop Boon scoring from the spot. Another long journey home for the Shottermill faithful.
Shottermill travel to Ditton this Saturday, with the clubs' reserve sides meeting at Woolmer Hill.
Shottermill & Haslemere: Howard, Holliman, Hadden, Rowden, Lockley, Barr, Clark, Dennard, Ellen, Daynes, O'Brien. Sub: Moore.
