THE Rotary Club of Farnham will host an indoor fixed cycling event at the Farnham Maltings in the new year to raise money for Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care and the breast cancer unit at Frimley Park Hospital.

Teams will compete in a number of different categories at the 12-hour charity event on February 27 and prizes will be awarded to those teams who have cycled the furthest.

Categories include over 60s, 15 to 60 years old, families and children under 15 years old, and novelty dressed.

The 12 hours will be segregated into one-hour slots with each team member cycling for up to 15 minutes at a time. To secure entry, each team must pledge to raise a minimum of £100 (£25 per team member) with a target of £400 per team.

The Rotary Club is asking people to challenge themselves as part of their new year resolutions; to challenge their friends and neighbours to get in better shape for those holidays they have planned; to challenge their rivals and competitors to beat their distance and raise more money.

A spokesman for the Rotary Club added: “Almost one third of the slots have already been snapped up and generous support from the Herald as well as sponsorship from the Maltings, Nuffield Health, Farnham Furnishers, Michael Conoley Associates and Specsavers means that the administration costs have already been covered and so all funds raised will go to the chosen charities.”

Entry can be arranged by emailing [email protected] or by post to Rotary Club of Farnham Benevolent Club, c/o Michael Conoley Associates, The Old Forge, The Green, Elstead, Surrey, GU8 6DD. Alternatively, visit the website www.justgiving.com/rotaryclub-farnham .
