SILENCE fell across the Farnham area this week as thousands gathered to pay their respects to the men and women who have given their lives in the service of their country.
Owing to its proximity to the home of the British Army, Remembrance Day has always held a special significance in Farnham where the two-minute silence was initiated in 1916.
And with 2014 marking the centenary of the start of the First World War, the outpouring of remembrance in the town and surrounding villages this year has been striking.
