MORE than 500 people joined South Farnham schoolboy Harry Sherwood and Rock Choir in a 24-hour Sing-A-Thon in aid of the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity last week.
The singers certainly sang for far more than their supper at both South Farnham Junior School and the Farnham Maltings on April 9 and 10, raising almost £11,000.
It was inspired by Harry Sherwood, a reception age pupil at South Farnham Infants School who has been fighting acute lymphoblastic leukaemia for more than two years.
Harry’s treatment is being led by The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and Rock Choir wanted to help raise the much-needed funds to support the incredible work they are doing.
The Sing-A-Thon began at 10am on both Saturday and Sunday and Surrey Rock Choir leader Tom George held workshops each day at South Farnham Junior School, teaching eight different Rock Choir songs such as John Farnham’s You’re The Voice and The Bee Gee’s How Deep Is Your Love.
Tom then rushed over to the Farnham Maltings on both days for a karaoke evening from 6pm until 10pm for adults to take part.
Tom said afterwards: “Members of the Rock Choir family came together with the local community and exceeded our expectations by raising an astonishing £10,862.91 for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and donations are still coming in.”
