“BLUES is a tonic for whatever ails you” said the famous Blues player BB King, and the musicians from the Surrey Blues Society would certainly agree.

More than 80 of them gathered together for a festival at the Royal British Legion in Elstead this summer to help raise money for local charity Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care.

The sun shone warmly as the players made some magical music in this very special setting, around the clubhouse and bowls green, where the bowls team bowled, the audience picnicked and the songs flowed.

Nearly £750 was raised on the day, through entrance tickets, t-shirt sales, a musical instrument bring and buy, and a raffle.

“We are very pleased that the festival was such a success and are thrilled to be able to donate nearly £750 to our chosen charity,” said Keith Jones from the Surrey Blues Society.

“It was a very special day – a real tonic for everyone!”

Charli Quay-Barnham, community fundraising manager at Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice, added: “We would like to thank Keith and Trisha, and everyone at the Surrey Blues Society, for this fantastic amount of money.

“£750 could pay for a physiotherapist for a week, helping patients to remain as independent as possible throughout all stages of their illness.”
