PETERSFIELD Town Council has come under fire over claims of "neglect" regarding the Heath pond.

John Crowhurst, former town mayor in the late 1990s, was one of two people who spoke of their concerns over the maintenance of both the pond and its environs at last week's grounds committee meeting.

Anger has been growing for months over work carried out at the Heath, which is commonly referred to as one of the "jewels" in Petersfield's crown. It comes after claims that clearance work has destroyed the flora and fauna of the beauty spot, a view shared by John Pike, the chairman of Petersfield Friends of the Heath.
