A LORRY driver from Bulgaria has been arrested after a serious crash near Buriton left a woman fighting for her life.

A police officer has been hailed a hero after a pulling a pair of sisters out of a flaming car on the A3 south of Petersfield.

The pair suffered serious injures after their broken down Peugeot was shunted into a barrier by an HGV before catching fire.

The 21-year-old driver of the Peugeot was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital and remains in a serious condition with life-threatening injuries.

Her 19-year-old sister was also flown out for treatment while a third female passenger was treated at the scene for shock by paramedics.

The A3 was closed in both directions between Petersfield and Clanfield following the accident at 9.08am on the southbound carriageway.
