SURREY County Council, bus operator Stagecoach and the police are to hold a site visit at Fosters Bridge in the near future.

The purpose of the visit , said a spokesman from Surrey County Council, is to "explore remedial measures that would enable double-deckers to go under the bridge safely".

The spokesman continued that "safety would be paramount in any discussions taking place".

Another inspection is being carried out at All Hallows School in Weybourne, following complaints from Steve Denne a Beacon Hill parent, who claims that single-decker buses, which have replaced double-deckers on the 18 and 19 services, are insufficient to meet the needs of children getting home from school.

Stagecoach say the buses that run from Haslemere to Aldershot can no longer use the bridge for safety reasons after a number of accidents with buses hitting the low bridge.

A meeting took place on Tuesday and the spokesman for SCC said that discussions were continuing to find a solution to the problem.

Diverted double-decker buses were, in the meantime, to be diverted down residential roads instead of using Fosters bridge but this plan has been delayed because of a public outcry.
