A NORTH Warnborough man is taking part in a charity skydive to raise funds for his cousin who was involved in a horrific accident in September.

Peter Keens will be throwing himself from a plane on December 1 to fundraise for his cousin Steven North who, in September, while walking a long a bridge in Basingstoke was struck by a vehicle and thrown onto the road below.

Steven, 38, was struck by the vehicle along Worting Road, which goes over the A340, when a car swerved to avoid a collision with another vehicle.

He was taken to Southampton General Hospital and is now in Salisbury hospital, where he has undergone an operation on his back and will be receiving skin graft treatment as a result of his injuries from the fall.

Peter, who said that he is extremely close to his cousin and sees him as a brother, said this was the perfect time to combine his life-long dream of skydiving with a worthwhile cause.

The 28 year old’s target of £1,000 is already almost half way to being reached thanks to a Just Giving page and sponsorship forms at The Derby Inn pub in Odiham where he works.

He is also keen to arrange other charity events to help raise funds for Mr North to aid with his rehabilitation and recovery.

The reaction to his skydive has been well received by residents, with many commending Peter for his immediate actions to help his cousin who is a popular member of the community and leaving many in shock that he was the victim of the horrific accident.
