SIXTEEN members of Haslemere Natural History Society attended a field meeting on Marley Common, when National Trust senior ranger Matt Bramich was able to show them some of the reptiles to be found there.
A beautiful adult female slow worm was the first find, discovered under a tin sheet.
Later, a common lizard that had lost part of its tail was found and examined.
Two male adders were seen, one of which was recognised by Matt, who has undertaken considerable monitoring of the species on Marley Common and is now able to distinguish one male from another.
Wearing protective gloves Matt demonstrated how adders are weighed and measured.
The event was one of the frequent field meetings the society holds to raise awareness of the natural world on Haslemere’s doorstep.
