NEXT year is set to mark the start of a brand new event in Farnham – the Farnham Rants Farnham Soapbox 2019.

Carts will be waiting on the start line to race down Castle Street on Sunday, August 18, all in aid of Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.

The idea came from Anthony Dougherty’s son, who was “desperate to join a soapbox race”, according to Lee Moran, one of the event organisers.

Anthony went on to post the idea on Facebook group Farnham Rants where it gained support. It was then put forward to Lee and plans started to be made.

Current members of the committee include Lee, Bryan Blencowe, Miles Auckland, Steve Allen and Matt Hieatt.

Lee said: “We want to bring an event we’re interested in closer to home. We’ve had an overwhelming number supporting us.

“We’re about to attend an events meeting with Farnham Town Council and meet with the town clerk for some advice.

“The next thing is we need as much support from residents as possible.”

The fee to enter will be £150 and applications will be accepted on a ‘first come first serve’ basis.
