THE Woolmer Forest Heritage Society enjoyed an Edwardian tea party, in traditional costume, to celebrate the distribution of its latest leaflet. The Be Proud of Your Edwardian Heriatge leaflet promotes the importance of historical buildings, particularly those built between 1901 and 1910. The Phoenix Arts Centre served as the appropriate venue for the tea party on May 2, as it was built in 1906 as the Royal Artillery Institute. It was one of many buildings from the era which the Heritage Society is keen to retain to give the developing town more character. Joan Martin, chairman of the Woolmer Forest Heritage Society, said: "We wish to raise awareness of those buildings which could be used by the community. "Some of these Army structures are hidden from the view of the general public and so the society has distributed, with Partners magazine, a leaflet to highlight these special buildings. "We would like to thank councillor Adam Carew for kindly funding this leaflet from his county- councillor discretionary fund."
