A DISPLAY of Tudor items has been organised at Bordon library by the town’s history society.
To complement a half-term event at the library, located at the Forest Shopping Centre, about Tudor fabrics and clothing, Whitehill and Bordon’s Woolmer Forest Heritage Society has changed its display in its cabinet at the library.
Artefacts on display, from the Hampshire Cultural Trust, include a Tudor pewter spoon and a horn book for teaching children how to form their letters. The society has also put on display other items from the Tudor era (1485-1603).
“Go along to Bordon Library and see what you can learn about these turbulent times in our local history,” said Dr Chris Wain, chairman of the Woolmer Forest Heritage Society. “This is a good opportunity to let the local community see what we can learn about the period of Henry VIII during the time he was in charge of the Royal Hunting Forest of Woolmer.”
Michelle Roffe, head of the Heritage Lottery Fund in the South East, said: “We’re delighted to support the Woolmer Forest Heritage Society to celebrate the local heritage of Bordon and Whitehill. Thanks to National Lottery players, local people can explore an important part of the town’s history.”
* The next meeting of the Heritage Society is at 7.30pm on Wednesday, March 7, at the Forest Community Centre, Bordon, at which Martin Sassin will give an illustrated talk on hunting and finding food in Roman times.
