A BORDON soldier was assaulted by three men when he tried to stop them from vandalising a phone box at Liphook Station on Saturday evening.

The soldier, from the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, suffered a broken leg in the assault.

In a statement from SEME, The Herald was told that the soldier, who was with a friend at the time of the incident, asked the three men to stop vandalising the phone box.

They refused and turned on the soldier, two of them assaulting him while the third distracted his friend.

At the time the soldier believed his leg had been badly bruised, but an X-ray on Sunday showed that it was broken.

Whitehill police attended the incident but the matter is now being dealt with by British Transport Police officer DS Steve O'Neil.

Anyone with any information about the attack should contact Ds O'Neil on 020 7 233 8449, or Whitehill police on 0845 045 4545.
