The wind again gave riders something to moan about in the 'a3crg' 10-mile time trial last week, but at least there was some sunshine to enjoy as well.
The stiff breeze helped riders as they made their way up the A3 towards Liphook, but it was hard work going back to Ham Barn. Nevertheless, 17 riders bettered their times for the season.
The main competition was for over-55s, with the a3 cycle racing group staging their 'Saga Night' and once again it was 68-year-old Jack Brown who lifted the trophy.
Brown not only won the competition on veterans' standard time (+8.24), but was also the fastest of the veteran riders, winning his 10-mile event in 23mins 24 and beating Sheet neighbour Jim Howlett by three seconds.
Nigel Bicknell from Farnham RC was down in eighth place, but was consoled by riding his fastest '10' on the A3. He was one of the riders who went on to complete a 25-mile event and recorded a personal best 1-06-38.
The '25' uses the 10-mile course twice, with an extra five miles added on. Aran Stanton (VC St Raphael) romped home the winner in a stunning time of 53mins 39. Petersfield triathlete Pete Younghusband (Tri UK) was second and Rother Valley's John Hepper came third in his best time of the season.
The 10-mile event was won by Gary Bucket (Portsmouth NE) who now leads the points table.
