SOMERFIELD supermarket this week quashed rumours the company is planning to sell its Haslemere store to Marks and Spencer. A spokesman for the store said of its West Street branch: "There are are no current plans to sell it." The rumours started after Marks and Spencer bought Somerfield sites at both Petersfield and Alton. In Petersfield, the Marks and Spencer store "Simply Food" will be opening this spring. The new store may also sell lingerie. Alton's "Simply Food" will also be opening this spring. When asked about the rumours, a spokesman for Marks and Spencer told The Herald that the company "does not comment on rumour and speculation".
