A CHARITY fun day at Haslemere’s Apple Tree pub harvested £920 for Oxfam GB and the Gurkha Welfare Trust.
The event was hosted by town residents Pete Swatton and Andy Connor, who are joining Iain McArthur, from Liphook, and Rob Bennett, from Petersfield, to complete the Oxfam Trailwalker, a 100km South Downs challenge, to swell the total.
Live music was at the pub event was performed by UkeJam, Slack Maverick, Martin Harley and Phil McKenzie, and trail walker Pete also debuted some new material with fellow musician Tom Groves on the cello.
There was a raffle with top prizes donated by Cowdray Park, Uppark House, Blackfarm Butchers and The General Wine Company, among others.
The team are aiming to walk some 60 miles in less than 30 hours from July 29-30.
They originally set themselves a fundraising target of £1,400 for Oxfam GB and the Gurkha Welfare Trust but thanks to their own fundraising and the £920 raised at the pub, they have now exceeded their target.
Pete told The Herald: “This took a lot of work to set up and we’d all like to thank everyone who came along, The Apple Tree for their helpful and generous support, everyone who donated prizes and everyone who helped us sell raffle tickets on the day.
“Knowing we’ve hit our fundraising target is a huge relief – now we’ve just got to walk the route and get to the end as a team.”
