POLICE in Farnham are appealing for sightings of “suspicious individuals” removing number plates from parked vehicles after a spike of thefts in the area.
Number plates have been stolen from vehicles in East Street and Weydon Lane in recent days, say officers, and it is feared they will be attached to other vehicles and used to steal fuel from petrol stations.
Police have increased patrols in the areas in question, and urge anyone who witnesses anything suspicious to call the police on 101, or 999 if in an emergency.
Car owners are also advised to secure number plates with tamper proof or clutch head screws, if possible park in a locked garage, or alternatively in a well-lit open location.
