MORE than 685 riders took part in a fun-filled fine day at the final annual Frensham Sponsored Ride held at Stockbridge Farm, Tilford.

The cross-country course of 10 miles not only took riders over scenic Frensham Common, but with kind permission of landowners allowed an interesting weave in-and-out-of private land, adding additional cross-country jumps for riders of all capabilities to attempt or just ride round.

The ride raises funds for local charities and good causes and over the past 40 years an estimated figure of £750,000 has been raised by this event – £25,000 was raised by horse riders at the one-day event.

Sadly this is the last fundraising event known as Frensham Sponsored Ride, but members are hopeful to pass the reins over so that a similar course can still be offered to all the riders, who hopefully will continue to raise money for charity

Members would like to say a huge thank you to all volunteers who have been involved over the years: ”This includes Waverley Borough Council for the use of Frensham Common, land owners, organising committee and especially Helen Clarke, founder of Frensham Sponsored Ride who has encouraged us over the years to continue the mammoth task of raising huge sums of money for charity”.
