FOOTBALL - Farnham Town made it five successive wins in the Courage Combined Counties League by beating Hartley Wintney 3-0 on Tuesday night. Player-manager Peter Browning scored the third goal with an unstoppable header.

Aldershot defeated Braintree Town 3-1 to earn a home game with Staines in the third round of the FA Trophy. Gary Abbott, Richard Gell and Grant Payne scored Aldershot's goals in front of 1,878 spectators. However, Aldershot remained in the bottom half of the Ryman Premier League table after losing 3-1 at Dagenham in mid-week.

Alton Town and Liss Athletic continued to enjoy contrasting fortunes in the Hampshire Premier League. Jon Noble scored twice as Liss beat Romsey 2-0 and his second, a 20-yard volley, was a candidate for goal of the season. Alton slumped to a 6-0 home defeat at the hands of Blackfield.

Shottermill drew 2-2 with Croydon MO and remain unbeaten at home in the Surrey Premier League. Derek Traylen scored five of the goals as Badshot Lea trounced Bisley Sports 6-3 in the Surrey Intermediate Cup.

RUGBY - Farnham are hoping the result will stand after their Surrey Div. I clash with Old Tiffinians was abandoned. Farnham were leading 13-10 when the referee called play off after 69 minutes because Tiffinians, the league leaders, had lost a second prop through injury and were unable to contest the scrums.

Alton had a setback in their London 2 (South) campaign, losing 8-18 at Haywards Heath. It was only Alton's second defeat of the season.

HOCKEY - Haslemere failed to turn their good attacking play into goals and were beaten 5-1 by visitors Oxted, the Hants/Surrey Combination leaders. Aldershot & Farnham came back into the Hants Div. II promotion reckoning with an excellent 2-1 win at high-riding Salisbury.

In the Hants Women's League, Aldershot & Farnham Ladies gave Div. I leaders Basingstoke a hard fight before going down 2-1. Haslemere Gregarians lost by a single goal to Eastleigh in Div. II.
