FOOTBALL - Aldershot Town recorded two wins in four days, despite a flood of injuries that is disrupting their build-up to the big FA Trophy clash with Woking next Saturday. Ian Hathaway became the latest casualty when he was knocked unconscious for several minutes in an accidental collision during the home game with Hendon. Aldershot shrugged off this setback to win 2-1 with goals from Gary Abbott and Neil Baker.

On Tuesday, Aldershot travelled to the Isle of Wight in the Hampshire Senior Cup and overcame a frosty pitch and stubborn resistance from Newport, goals from Otis Hutchings and Abbott giving them a 2-0 victory.

Farnham Town could only draw 0-0 at Westfield in the Courage Combined Counties League. Alton Town suffered a humiliating 7-1 thrashing at AFC Basingstoke in the Hampshire Premier League. Alton showed signs of improvement on Tuesday night when they entertained second-placed Locksheath, but, with the score 0-0 at half-time, the game was abandoned due to a frozen pitch.

Liss Athletic squandered a two-goal lead against Farnborough North End in the Aldershot FA Senior Cup and lost to their lower-ranked opponents by the odd goal in five.

Badshot Lea and Tongham recorded useful wins in the Surrey Intermediate League Premier Div I, while Hale moved up to second place in Premier Div III after beating Shere 4-0.

RUGBY - Haslemere and Farnham both went out of the Surrey Shield. Haslemere were on the verge of a surprise win when they led Raynes Park 20-19, but failed to sustain their efforts and lost 20-25. Farnham gave away far too many penalties and went down 12-25 to KCS, the Surrey I leaders.

HOCKEY - Petersfield continued their excellent form in Hampshire Div I, beating Yateley 4-0 to overtake their local rivals and move into third spot. Dean Tutt scored twice, with Andy Bray and Tim Powell also on target.

Aldershot & Farnham Ladies, also in fine form, trounced Esso 5-1 in their Hants Div I match, all the goals coming in the second half. Skipper Di Taylor led from the front with a brace of goals. Gregarians, having taken the lead with a goal by Alys Langdale, lost 4-1 to Romsey in Hants Div II.

TABLE TENNIS - Farnham Central 'A' are favourites to retain their Aldershot League title after returning to the top of Division One. The Haslemere League looks like being a four-horse race, with Verdley 'A' currently leading the field.
