FOOTBALL - One week away from their big FA Trophy game at Woking, Aldershot Town could only draw with Gravesend & Northfleet in the Ryman Premier League. Gary Abbott's first-half goal looked like being enough for the visitors, but Jimmy Jackson equalised for Gravesend from a late free-kick. The match ended in chaos with a mass skirmish near the players' tunnel and Aldershot's physio, Alan McCreeney, being arrested after an alleged assault.

Farnham Town kept their season alive with a superb victory in the Courage Combined Counties League's Challenge Cup. Dave Bridger marked his return from injury with two goals in injury time as Farnham beat Bedfont 3-1 to reach the semi-finals.

Liss Athletic led 2-0 at one stage in their Hants Premier League match against Hythe & Dibden, the goals coming from Kevin Morley and Kevin Rowsell. But then it all went wrong for Liss who had two men sent off and Hythe ran out 4-3 winners.

Shottermill looked to be a beaten side when Chobham took a late 2-1 lead in the Surrey Premier League match. But with the home team still celebrating, 'Mill broke away and Graham Purt chipped the ball in for a last-gasp equaliser.

Badshot Lea and Chiddingfold will meet in the semi-finals of the Surrey Intermediate Cup after both sides won their quarter-final ties. Dave Ford and Dave Hooker were on target as 'Lea beat Warlingham 2-0. Gary Newell gave Chiddingfold an early lead against Merrow, but it took a penalty shoot-out to finally separate the teams, with 'Chidd' showing their shooting prowess from the spot.

RUGBY - Alton recorded a first ever victory over Old Wimbledonians in the London II (South) league. Prop Steve Hellier showed his power with two tries and Alton won convincingly by 29 points to 12.

Farnham gave a disciplined performance in very windy conditions at Kingston and continued their best season to date with a 10-3 win in Surrey Division I.

HOCKEY - Haslemere avenged an earlier defeat with a narrow 2-1 win over Old Mid Whitgiftians in the Hants/Surrey Regional League. Tom Norman scored the decider.

Petersfield, having an excellent season in Hants Division I, scored three times in the last 10 minutes to beat Hamble Old Boys 6-5 in an action-packed match. Ace striker Dean Tutt scored four goals.

ATHLETICS - Aldershot, Farnham & District AC gained medals in eight out of 10 races in the South of England cross-country championships. The Under-13 girls led the way with a remarkable one-two-three-four in their race, Cheryl Hammond taking the title.

CRICKET - New Zealand first-class cricketer Chris Nevin will lead Liphook & Ripsley in their quest to reach the Gold Division when the new Hampshire Premier League gets underway next season.
