FOOTBALL - Continuing their excellent form in the Ryman League Premier Division, Aldershot Town beat Chesham 4-1 in front of 2,157 spectators. Goal-machine Gary Abbott took his tally for the season to 33 with a hat-trick, although there was a doubt about whether he scored the first goal which came in a frantic goalmouth scramble.

Farnham Town have hit a bad patch in the Combined Counties League. After successive defeats by 3-0 and 4-0, they could only draw with bottom side Cranleigh on Tuesday night, Nigel Young's goal being cancelled out by Tim Sargeant.

Alton Town avenged an earlier heavy defeat when they beat AFC Basingstoke 3-1 in the Hampshire Premier League. Mickey Street, Jon Reilly and Carlton Byrne scored Alton's goals in an encouraging performance.

Liss Athletic are unbeaten in eight matches, but have also drawn four in a row. They led 2-1 late in the match against Amesbury, but a late defensive error gifted the visitors their equaliser.

In the Surrey Intermediate Premier Div. I, Badshot Lea easily overcame lowly Fairlands 3-1, with Dave Hooker scoring twice. A division below, Hammer, reduced to 10 men by a red card, drew 1-1 at Wonersh, while Haslemere shared six goals with Ripley Village.

Aldershot & Farnborough Schools' Under-15 team put up a great fight before losing 2-0 at Cardiff in the semi-finals of the English Schools Trophy - the schoolboy 'FA Cup'.

HOCKEY - Haslemere have had an up-and-down season in the Hants/Surrey Regional League, but they signed off with a good 2-0 win at London University. Skipper Jules Porter and Mark Cranwell were the men on target.

Petersfield's small squad have felt the pace in a hectic season and lost 4-1 to Portsmouth & Southsea in their final Hants Div. I match.

Aldershot & Farnham secured third place in the Women's Hants Div. I with a well-earned 2-0 win against Southampton University. Di Taylor and Debbie Ridger got the goals. A stunning goal by Katrina Leather salvaged a 1-1 draw for Gregarians in their Div. II match at Basingstoke.

ATHLETICS – There was a good turn-out for the Fleet Half-Marathon, including 24 members of the Farnham Runners club who returned some good times for the 13.1 miles.

CYCLING – The Liphook Cycles Racing Team completed their first Premier Series race - a 92-mile endurance test. Three Alton CC/1st Gear Cycles riders competed in the Surrey League race at Dunsfold.
