FOOTBALL - Aldershot Town notched up a record club scoreline when they overwhelmed Andover 9-1 in the Hampshire Senior Cup Final. Gary Abbott led the scoring blitz with five goals, Mark Bentley grabbed a hat-trick and substitute Junior Harvey added the ninth goal on a memorable night at The Camrose ground, Basingstoke.

Village football side, Chiddingfold FC, also enjoyed a night of cup glory. They won the Surrey Intermediate Cup for the first time in the club's 111-year history by defeating Dorking team Seelec Delta in the final at Imber Court, Esher. Gary Newell gave Chiddingfold the lead and James Kay got the 70th-minute winner with a free-kick 'special'.

Farnham Town ended their long, barren spell in the Courage Combined Counties League with a 4-2 win at Viking Greenford in their final fixture

CRICKET - Farnham had high hopes of opening their Surrey Championship season with a win after dismissing Malden Wanderers for only 106. However, the home side came back with a vengeance and Farnham were skittled out for 70, with David Gorrod taking 7 for 26.

Farnham regained some pride the following day with a good win over Mill Hill (Middlesex) in the National Club Knockout.

Liphook & Ripsley lost heavily to Portsmouth in the Southern Premier League Div. II, but Rowledge beat Paultons in a low-scoring Div. III fixture. Paceman Glen Tisdale, Rowledge's Australian newcomer, took 6 for 16.

Haslemere were denied a victory in their first Fullers Surrey League match, Thames Ditton's last pair playing out time. Churt drew with Old Paulines.

The outstanding performance in the I'Anson Competition came from Bourne seamer Andy Rooke who took 8 for 21, including a hat-trick, against Witley.

HOCKEY - Top-class hockey can be seen at Woolmer Hill Sports Ground this weekend when Haslemere Hockey Club stage one of the pools in the preliminary round of the County Championship.
