THE Devil’s Punch Bowl will be the setting for a major new sports challenge to benefit Surrey charities.

The Surrey Hills Challenge kicks off on September 25 in 2016 and offers four different running and walking challenges that start in Hindhead and also encompass Hascombe, Pitch, Holmbury and Leith hills.

Four different running and walking challenges are on offer, comprising a 60km ‘The Ultra’ run for the super fit, a 21km ‘The Half’, a 10km ‘The Five’ and a family challenge 5km event.

Designed to show off the best of the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the routes will be along woodland trails, fields and footpaths providing participants with glorious views.

Next year’s big charity challenge is in aid of The Community Foundation for Surrey and the Surrey Hills Trust Fund.

The foundation has already supported more than 1,800 projects by awarding grants to fund community and voluntary groups county wide. The Community Foundation established the Surrey Hills Trust Fund to benefit projects and community groups within the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Wendy Varcoe, executive director of the foundation, said: “This is a fantastic event for people of all ages and fitness levels to walk or run the Surrey Hills and support communities and people in Surrey. By taking part in the challenge you will be helping others in our local communities and supporting this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.”
