THE Petersfield Lions Football Club have been challenged to a match by staff at a major international bank based in London.

The group of lads, who meet at the Red Lion in Petersfield, enjoyed their 15 minutes of fame last week when the country heard their story of mistaken identity on a tour of Italy.

Members of the team travelled to Turin to play what they thought would be other local pub sides.

Instead, the Lions were faced with hundreds of Italian fans and ended up playing professional teams after mistakenly being billed as a second division English team. They lost the games 16 - 0 and 15 - 2.

Staff at the Deutsche Bank in London heard the story on the radio and read it in national newspapers. Now the Lions have been challenged to a match on Saturday, June 30, at the Taro Centre.

Team captain Richard Kates said: "We got a call from someone from the bank asking us for a game. The season is over now so we will look forward to another friendly match.

"I don't think there will be as many fans at this fixture and I think we have got a better chance of winning this one."
