BUDDING athletes can now apply for funding that could help them get to Tokyo 2020 and beyond thanks to East Hampshire District Council’s elite sports fund.
Hampshire citizens brought back two gold and three silver medals from the Rio 2016 Olympics.
Until December 31, people with their sights on the Olympics, Paralympics or the top level of any sport can apply for grants of between £50 and £600 to go towards travel, coaching expenses, qualifications, equipment or clothing.
Applicants must be between 10 and 24 years old, live in the district and be at least county standard or equivalent within their sport , and fully supported by the coach, club, national governing body or teacheras well as including any other additional information in support of the application.
Everyone who applies for a grant will also be considered for the 2017 East Hampshire Sports Awards.
Councillor Julie Butler said: “Becoming an elite sportsman or woman takes thousands of hours and years of dedication. EHDC recognises how important additional support can be and the Elite Sports Fund is our way to contribute to local sporting success.
