FOOTBALL - Gary Abbott missed a great chance to send Aldershot Town through to the last 16 of the FA Trophy at Woking on Saturday. After a goalless draw, the local rivals will replay at the Recreation Ground on Tuesday. The prize at stake is a trip to Mark Wright's Southport on February 26.

Abbott found his goal touch again in midweek, scoring twice as Aldershot beat Carshalton 4-0 to consolidate their sixth place in the Ryman Premier League.

Farnham Town won a rehearsal for the Courage Combined Counties League Challenge Cup semi-final when they beat Viking Greenford 3-1 in a Premier Division fixture.

In the Hampshire Premier League, Liss Athletic confirmed their return to form with two superb wins over high-riding opposition. After a 2-0 win at Locksheath on Saturday, Liss thrashed second-placed New Street 5-0 in midweek. Midfielder Tony Coluccia scored two exceptional goals.

Shottermill went down 2-3 to Virginia Water in the Surrey Premier League and have now lost three of their last four home games.

Badshot Lea stretched their undefeated run to nine matches in the Surrey Intermediate Premier Division One, beating third-placed Woking Park 3-2, thanks to a late winner from Michael Jones.

RUGBY - Alton came from behind to beat Gosport 15-8 and reach the last eight of the Hampshire Cup. Alton were trailing 7-8 with two minutes left, but Richard Rowledge kicked a crucial penalty and then Jason Jeffery wrapped it up with a try in injury time. Alton will visit Winchester in the quarter-finals.

Alton Ladies, meanwhile, have gone top of the RFUW Premier II and have a great chance of reaching the exalted heights of Premier I.

HOCKEY - Local rivals Haslemere and Fleet shared the points after a dour 1-1 draw in the Hants/Surrey Regional League.

Goal machine Dean Tutt scored another hat-trick as Petersfield romped home 4-0 in the local derby with Alton. 'Field strengthen their third place in Hants Division One, while Alton face a fight against relegation.

ATHLETICS - Mick Woods has been named male coach of the year by Athletics Weekly and his club, Aldershot, Farnham & District AC, celebrated with a dominant performance in the last Hampshire League cross-country meeting of the season.

Farnham Runners and Alton Joggers also had a good day at Bournemouth. Haslemere Border escaped relegation from division three in the Surrey League meeting. Waverley Harriers finished fifth overall in division four.
