A STRING of promotional events to encourage people into Wey Hill once the £150,000 improvement scheme begins has been announced.

The programme will be similar to the Òevent a dayÓ scheme pioneered by the Haslemere Chamber of Trade last year when Haslemere High Street was closed for roadworks for two weeks.

Among the attractions were free wine tasting, competitions, flower display making, and tea with the mayor at the town hall.

ÒWeÕre looking forward to an improved Wey Hill,Ó said Chamber of Trade president Melanie Odell.

ÒWhile we realise that there will be some disruption, we shall be organising a similar set of events to the Òevent a dayÓ scheme in February next year.Ó

The improvement project will include traffic calming and a smartening up of the area with more trees and litter bins.

Mrs Odell praised the co-operation with Surrey County Council that has led to a revised version of the scheme announced in last weekÕs Herald.

ÒWe had a series of sensible and constructive meetings, that were very successful,Ó she said.

ÒSurrey County Council was very amenable to our views and ideas, which shows how good it is to work in partnership.

ÒIÕd like to give full credit to all the people who worked so hard to get this far.Ó

Making a comeback is another successful chamber-organised event from last year - the fashion show. In aid of the mayorÕs charities, the show starts at 6-30 pm on November 11.
