PILLARS of Grayshott took centre stage last Saturday morning to show off the vital work they do for their community.

Nearly 30 organisations were represented at the Fair in The Square, organised by the Square Events Group, ranging from the parish council, the social club and village school, to the tennis club, All Stars cricket centre, folk club and care homes.

Thanks to Grayshott Concerts founders Peter and Vivien Harrison, their home village is the only one in the UK regularly staging major works performed by top professional musicians, while Grayshott Cricket Club fields the largest children’s section in Hampshire.

Grayshott Heritage retrieves and preserves historical records to ensure nothing momentous gets forgotten in years to come and Grayshott Decorative and Fine Arts Society attracts talks by the finest lecturers in their fields.

Event organiser Julia Hedger said: “We were celebrating the rich community life of our village.

“It seems to have been a great success and we have had some good feedback.

“People hope it will become an annual event. Charities have received more volunteers and a lot of networking was done. Those that had tickets to sell reported good sales.

“Everyone said there was a happy atmosphere and it had brought back a community spirit to The Square.”
