Fernhurst Horticultural Society’s spring show was a blooming success.
The village hall was buzzing with experienced gardeners and those just wanting to enjoy the delights of beautiful flowers, photographs and handicrafts, as well as homemade tea and cakes.
Elizabeth Tyler was awarded five cups for her outstanding flowers, foliage and photographs.
Other cups were won by Rosemary Walker for her pot plants and Lenka Van der Valt for her exhibit in the handicraft section.
Mary Woong took first prize in the children’s division with her to scale garden in a container, with the judges particularly enjoyed sampling exhibits from Alex Burnett, who won first prize for flapjacks and Isabel Swan, who came a close second.
This year saw record numbers of entries, with many places awarded. All shows are now open to non-members with everyone being encouraged to enter the friendly village event.
The next show is on Saturday, September 3. For more information on how to enter go to www.fernhurst.net/ hortsoc – donated plants will be on sale at the Fernhurst Revels, on Sunday, May 15.
