CHILDREN at St Andrew’s School enjoyed a good old fashioned street party to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday last Friday.
Pupils made crowns and Union Jack flags and the school playground was transformed by parents with red, white and blue balloons, bunting and flags from all corners of the Commonwealth.
Tables were set up with a feast of party food for all the children and their siblings, ready for when they came out at pick-up time.
To start the proceedings the children had been learning the National Anthem, and before they tucked into their feast they sang, with great gusto, at the tops of their voices.
While the children played games at various stands parents were all invited to sample the schools very own cider, Seek Ye Thirst.
Cleverly named after the school song ‘Seek ye First’, the cider was brewed and bottled at Mr Whitehead’s Cider Company near Alton by parents and the St Andrew’s PTA and was hailed a huge success.
The children wore red, white and blue, as did the staff, and although the headteacher and school office manager were nowhere to be seen Her Majesty Britannia and Kate Middleton appeared in their place.
Even the Queen made an appearance in the form of a life-size cardboard cut out.
