ST Mary’s Infant School in Frensham won first prize winner in the Decorate A Christmas Tree competition run by Squire’s Garden Centre in Frensham.

Children from the Woodpeckers, Kingfishers and Goldfinches classes at St Mary’s beat off local competition to win the Best Decorated Tree as voted for by Squire’s Frensham customers.

The children had to design and make their own sparkly tree decorations, before hanging them on a special tree at Squire’s Garden Centre in The Reeds Road, Frensham.

Their creative success was rewarded with goody bags for all the participating classes.

Brian Phillips, manager at Squire’s Frensham, said: “The St Mary’s Tilford team created an incredible selection of festive decorations and we were very impressed with their skills.

“It was a pleasure to have the children at Squire’s while they decorated the tree and to see their enthusiasm in full flow!”

Jennifer Downing, head teacher at the village infant school, added: “We are very proud of the children from our Woodpeckers, Goldfinches and Kingfishers classes.

“They loved being part of the competition with other local schools and putting their creative skills to the test, making their own decorations for the tree at Squire’s.

“Anyone who missed seeing them at Squire’s should check out the phone box outside St Mary’s as we will be filling it with the decorations in the run-up to Christmas!”

As well as getting involved in the decoration of the Christmas tree at Squire’s, every child in St Mary’s reception class, Goldfinches, had a part to play in the school nativity.

This year’s nativity play was titled A Miracle in Town and everyone was said to have sung the songs “with gusto” and was “word perfect”.

The children gave two performances to audiences of their parents and grandparents, who were “very impressed” with the acting.

St Mary’s Infant School is grateful to parents Mike Smith, for piano accompaniment, and James Clarke, for filming, editing and producing

DVDs for parents, creating a lovely reminder of the A Miracle in Town production.

A collection was taken at the end of both performances and more than £100 was raised for the Vine Centre in Aldershot.

The charity, set up in 1987, provides a range of services to disadvantaged adults in the community.
