ST Peter’s School in Wrecclesham has been awarded the British Council’s prestigious International School Award in recognition of its work to ‘bring the world into the classroom’.

The International School Award celebrates the achievements of schools that do exceptional work in international education.

Sarah Marshall, deputy head at St Peter’s, said: “This exciting award recognises the hard work of our staff who are committed to giving children broad learning opportunities.”

The British Council were particularly impressed with St Peter’s links with two French schools enabling pupils to exchange letters and Skype their French pen pals.

The school also joined three ‘E-twinning’ projects last year involving schools from all over Europe, and has extended its links with a charity school in Ghana. This year some children will also be learning Japanese in a lunch-time club

Sir Ciaran Devane, CEO of the British Council, said: “St Peter’s fantastic achievements really deserve this award. Embedding an international dimension in children’s education ensures that they are truly global citizens and helps prepare them for successful lives and careers in an increasingly global economy.”

Mrs Marshall added: “Our collaborative learning with overseas schools will continue - there is so much we can learn from each other.”
