FARNHAM’S formal Remembrance Sunday parade, which is organised by the Royal British Legion, will take place on Sunday, November 8.

The Mayor of Farnham, Pat Frost and dignitaries will process from the Council Offices in South Street before assembling at the war memorial in Gostrey Meadow for a service at 10.45am. The service will be led by Rev Canon Nigel Nicholson DL.

Mrs Frost said: “This is a very special and poignant day for many people. It is a day to remember all world conflicts in which our servicemen and women have served and given their lives. All members of the local community are welcome to attend. At 11am we will observe a two-minute silence and a bugler from Alder Valley Brass Band will play the Last Post and Reveille.”

Once the two-minute silence has been observed, the mayor, guests and members of the public will be invited to lay wreaths or poppies in remembrance.

The service will be followed by a parade, which will include representatives of the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment which is based in Farnham, members of the armed forces, uniformed services, Army, Air and Sea Cadets and local Scout and Guide groups. The parade will end at St Andrew’s Church with a service at 11.30am.

Other Remembrance services takeing place around Farnham include at the war memorials at Badshot Lea, Hale, Rowledge, St Thomas-on-the Bourne, St Peter’s at Wrecclesham and Weybourne.

On November 11, school children and representatives from the British Legion will gather around the war memorial in Gostrey Meadow to take part in a two-minute silence.

The silence will be followed by the laying of a wreath and wooden crosses. After the service, the children will join the mayor for a civic tea in the council chamber.
