The Information Hub at Haslemere railway station went ‘live’ on Saturday last week with a party to celebrate.

The hub is now open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 10am to midday and 10am to 1pm on Saturday and Sunday. An appeal has been made for more volunteers so that it can open for longer.

County councillor Nikki Barton said: “The establishment of the new information hub at the station is a fantastic opportunity.

“We trust the new rail franchise holder will continue to actively support the initiative.

“An ongoing financial commitment has, we understand, been written into the new franchise agreements.”

The rail partnership is also working to improve the look of the station. Old flower beds on the platform have been cleared and planted, new tubs have been installed in the forecourt, and there will be a bed in front of the station and window boxes outside the waiting rooms.

Hub manager Antoinette Francis thanked florist Kate Owens, from Verdley Flowers, for her window display centrepiece and said: “The hub will offer a great source of information for those who want to explore and will also provide a wonderful opportunity to all the separate local organisations in Haslemere to promote themselves and the many events and activities they organise in and around the town.

“Anyone interested in being a part of the team and volunteering for just a couple of hours every fortnight or so, or for further information about the hub, please email [email protected].”
