HERE was a match that had everything: mud, rain, wind and goals.

Third-placed Hammer, who have seen their promotion hopes fade, kicked off into the driving drizzle, but still managed to go two up within 20 minutes. First, George Stavik's rasping shot hit a post and Carl Thayre converted the rebound from a narrow angle. The second was an individual effort from Stavik, who shrugged off a defender and gave the 'keeper no chance.

Even so, Worplesdon spent long periods camped in United's half, with no reward for their workmanlike efforts.

Moments into the second half, Craig Clifford had the ball in the net for Hammer, only to be adjudged offside.

The visitors continued to press and were rewarded for their persistence 10 minutes into the half when they pulled one back following a corner.

This gave Worplesdon a lift and for 15 minutes they put Hammer under intense pressure.

So it was against the run of play that Stavik scored his second for United with another individual effort.

Ten minutes later, Hammer increased their lead when Clifford converted a cross from Grant Barratt.

Five minutes from the end, 'super sub' Rami Salameh, who had just come on for United, ran through the visitors' offside trap and steered the ball into the net for the fifth goal.

Hammer are home to Guildford Weysiders this Saturday, while the reserves travel to Royal Holloway in the Invitation Cup.
