BUDDY the “speech bubble” helped to spread the NSPCC campaign message, ‘Speak Out Stay Safe’, to St Andrew’s Infant School pupils this week.

The children’s charity mascot, Buddy, and their representative, Mandy Elton, visited St Andrew’s to raise safeguarding awareness.

“Keeping our children safe, both at school and in their wider lives, is our priority, and we are always looking for new ways of educating our pupils and arming them with the information they need,” said one of the staff.

“So we are very pleased to be working alongside the NSPCC and embracing their Speak Out Stay Safe campaign.”

The NSPCC representative introduced pupils to their mascot, Buddy. She talked to the children about what to do if they are feeling worried or sad. They also spoke about trusted adults and them recognising who these people might be.

As well as raising safeguarding awareness among children, the NSPCC is also fundraising for its charity. As part of this, the children are being invited to take part in Buddy’s Big Work Out, which is a chance to help more children by raising sponsorship money.

The St Andrew’s School Council, with pupils from every class, discussed a variety of ways they could raise money while having fun and keeping fit.

All the St Andrew’s pupils are looking forward to taking part and helping Buddy raise money for this worthy cause, and the school are excited to be welcoming the NSPCC back in a couple of weeks to tell them how much money they raised.

One of the children said: “Learning about Buddy helps children to feel better. Now I know what to do if I don’t feel safe.”
