DONATIONS are still welcomed for the Project Wenceslas appeal backed by Herald Newspapers, Riverprint and Farnham Lions.
Pensioners who did not need their winter fuel allowances were invited to donate the money to support families and individuals struggling to keep warm, and the appeal has raised more than £15,700 to date.
The funds are now being distributed to those in need, identified by the Citizens’ Advice Bureau, Tennyson’s Sure Start Children’s Centre and Home/School link workers. So far 25 donations have been made, benefiting more than 75 people and more cases are being progressed by the agencies.
All payments are made on behalf of clients direct to the fuel utility companies so donors can be reassured every penny goes to helping meet the cost of fuel.
Project chairman Tony Burke said: “Farnham Lions are most appreciative of the support received from The Herald group and Riverprint for their valuable sponsorship of this excellent initiative and are especially grateful to the numerous donors who have helped to make Project Wenceslas such a practical contribution to the needs of the community in Farnham and Haslemere.”
You can still donate online via www.just giving.com/lions-wenceslas or by sending cheques made payable to Lions Club of Farnham (endorsed WFP on the back) to: The Lion Treasurer 15 Abbotts Ride Farnham GU9 8HY.
