Local hospice care charity Phyllis Tuckwell will be holding its next monthly plant sale on Sunday (April 2), and it’s the perfect place to stock up on bargain-price plants for a bank holiday gardening session!

Plant sales will be held at the hospice on the first Sunday of the month, from March to July, to raise important money to help fund the care which Phyllis Tuckwell provides.

Every day, Phyllis Tuckwell supports over 250 patients, relatives and carers who are living with an advanced or terminal illness, such as cancer. It cares for people across the whole of West Surrey and part of North-East Hampshire - in their own homes, in the community, at the hospice in Farnham and at the Beacon Centre in Guildford – and gives all of its care free of charge.

However, as the NHS/Government usually only covers about 20 per cent of its costs, it has to raise over £25,000 a day to do this. Buying plants at these sales will contribute directly to helping Phyllis Tuckwell continue providing this vital care.

“From the moment we were referred, I felt so well supported by them,” said the wife of one of their patients. “I’m so grateful for their help.”

Phyllis Tuckwell volunteers will be on hand at the sales and can offer general advice. If you aren’t able to make it on the day though, don’t worry, as Phyllis Tuckwell has a range of plants available to buy throughout the week too.

Simply pop along to the hospice, browse through the plants just outside the main entrance, and pay at the reception desk.

“We were delighted to see lots of people enjoying browsing and buying plants at our March plant sale, and we hope many more will be able to come along to our April sale,” said Ruth Masters, head of community, corporate and events fundraising at Phyllis Tuckwell.

“The March sale raised a fantastic £208, enough to pay for a whole day’s care from one of our In-Patient Unit nurses. These specialist nurses each offer compassionate care for up to five patients, as well as providing important emotional support for their loved ones. ”

If you have any plants which you would like to donate to be sold at the plant sales, email [email protected] beforehand and a member of the team will get in touch with you.
