THE times could be changing at a Petersfield landmark if an updated application gets the green light.

Developers looking to demolish the International Stores building have agreed to incorporate its 1875 crest into any replacement.

But Petersfield town councillors are unhappy that a little bit of history at the Chapel Street building could be swept under the carpet.

Amended plans to redevelop the building and adjacent block along Hobbs Lane went before the town council's planning committee last on November 27.

Applicants LCP Securities want to demolish the 19th Century landmark because it's structurally unsound in parts and needs pulling down.

Their plan is to build a virtual replacement with a near-identical facade on Chapel Street and accommodation in the roof space.

The rear block will be replaced with a four-storey building to create three retail units and five one-bedroom flats.
