STRONG winds brought down a tree on the A325 between the Water Lane and Six Bells roundabouts on Wednesday morning, as Storm Eleanor battered the region.

Gusts of up to 65 mph were felt across Surrey and Hampshire, prompting the Met Office to issue a ‘yellow’ weather warning, with a “small chance of injuries and danger to life, as well as minor property damage, from flying debris”.

South Western Railway also warned of possible train cancellations on Wednesday due to “blustery weather conditions” and trees blocking the railway.

The powerful Storm Eleanor followed a spell of heavy rain and flood warnings on the River Wey late last week, with standing water presenting a challenge to motorists.

A huge puddle formed on the A31 last Friday morning opposite the Coxbridge Business Park and firefighters also warned of several crashes due to aquaplaning on the A331 Blackwater Valley.
