FLASH floods hit Farnham on Tuesday, with excess surface water gushing down highways, pavements and drainpipes. According to local weather buff Chris Shepheard, 4.5mm of rainwater fell during a downpour of just half an hour. "The rate it came down was incredible," he said. "We've had wetter days this month, but not over such a short spell. "If it had gone on longer, it could have been a serious issue." Meanwhile, Carol Harnett, of The Street, Wrecclesham, said: "It was 7.30pm and the rain gushed down our drive and down Quennels Hill as well as down the road itself. For about half an hour, it was too much for the drain. "Many of the cars did not slow down, resulting in huge backwashes, but others did, and crawled through the water at a safer pace."
